Is Organic Pet Food Better?
Most owners want to feed the “best” food to their pets so many people are turning to organic foods. Organic food sales for pets have grown three times the rate of human organic foods according to the Organic Trade Association. But just because it’s organic does that mean it's better for your pet?
There are many advantages to organic pet foods. They do not contain any preservatives, artificial flavorings or artificial colors. They do not contain any growth hormones or antibiotics. There are no fillers and they are often higher in antioxidants than commercial diets. All of these things make the foods more nutritious, more palatable and easier to digest. Many owners report that these diets seem to help boost the pet’s immunity and can even improve some allergies.
With all that being said however, there are no scientific studies or evidence that organic foods are more beneficial. A big disadvantage to organic pet foods is that they are considerably more expensive than regular commercial diets. They can also be hard to find on a regular basis.
Basically, what it all comes down to is that each individual pet owner needs to weigh the pros and cons of organic pet food and decide what is best for his pet and his wallet.

I am one of those pet owners who has seen a positive impact of Newman's Own dog food/treats.
I decided a while back to cut out whites, wheats, glutens and corn from my own diet and noticed a huge change in my body. I feel better and people who know me say I look better too. That made me think of my dog, Mocha (a 3+yr Pom). I asked myself: If I'm changing this in my diet, what about hers? It motivated me to read every package in the store until I came upon Newman's Own. I found it to be THE only one that didn't have corn and corn syrup as the main ingredients!
From that day on, I decided she was worth paying a bit more and I'm so glad I did. Though it's probably not 'vet approved' I am pleased with her improved health, coat, teeth, attitude and energy levels! I've never fed her table scraps especially seeing what it did to a dog we had when I was a teen. The only "people food" she gets (and enjoys) is cauliflower, broccoli and fresh green beans (what her momma eats). I hope this change helps her be with me a very long time.

What is so great about "natuaral" and "organic" Those classes include such substances as strychnine and ricin.

The dog food I buy is not necessarily organic but it is expensive. I buy from the specialty pet stores in my area. The foods have made a great difference in my dogs' coats and skin. Dog chow is a lot less expensive but then I have to pay a lot more in vet bills.

Organic dog food does not have antibiotics, growth hormones or pesticides in it. Regular dog food does. Even though there aren't studies proving one way or the other if its healthier than normal dog food, I think any reasonable person can come up with the answer.

The dog quickly became ubiquitous across culture across the world, and was extremely valuable to early human settlements. For instance, it is believed that the successful emigration across the Bering Strait might not have been possible without sled dogs.

Even if pet owners want to feed the best food for their pets, it doesn't mean it is easy to choose which one is best. After reading the latest pet food alert report, I really don't know who to trust anymore and the worst thing is that my dog died from devastating lung cancer at the age of 10 and his diet was principally composed by supposedly the highest in quality pet food on the market. So go figure.
We try to eat organic food as often as possible and if my dog was still alive, I would cook dog meals everyday to be sure what I am feeding him.

Well, I have three dogs, and I'm very keen on what I give them as dog treats. I think it depends on the breed of your pet. I have a Kooikerhondje, a Golden Retriever pup, and a Rafeiro do Alentejo. So their food varies. I take good care of their coat 'coz fur is one of the most sensitive parts. It would be better if you ask the vet first before giving any food to your pets.

This is a great write up about organic pet foods. The one thing you can be certain is that the ingredients are truly what is listed on the package. In order to be certified organic, we are inspected and have to show proof that our ingredients came from a certified organic source. Certified organic pet foods are held to a higher standard than holistic, or regular pet foods. With that said, the cost of those ingredients tend to be more expensive. Another case of -you get what you pay for...
