Pet Fennec Fox

This makes me want a Fennec fox. Do they make good pets? Anyone have one? One of the issues I could see is that they're nocturnal. Then again, my Beagle mix is essentially nocturnal. She sleeps all day. Oh, and all night. Really she's awake for only a few hours a day. Lazy dog...

I'm pretty sure I know which breeds are in my dog, as the leading candidates both explain key parts of her appearance and her personality. I'm tempted to try this out, but I've also heard a lot of stories about erroneous results coming back. If you read the reviews on Amazon, you will find some that sound very odd. For instance, someone thought their dog was part Labrador, and it told them their dog was a mix of Chihuahua and Newfoundland--as if anyone can imagine that highly unlikely pair getting together under any circumstances. I wonder how much error is due to the fact that the database might not yet contain many less popular breeds, and so certain ones are overrepresented in the results.

Fennec Foxes are very cute, but from what I have heard do not make very good pets. They are amazingly good at digging tunnels, so very hard to stop them escaping and once they are out they normally just keep running, unlike dogs who often return home. I work at at a zoo and the Fennec's are my favourite animals we have, but I still would not really want one as a pet as they do take a lot of looking after.

Fennec fox may not be a very good pet on it's own, but I think with the company of other domesticated animals like a dog or a cat could actually calm the temperament of this cute creature. What is your view on this?

You may remenber the four proverbs:
Old sin makes new shame.
Once a man and twice a child.
Once a thief, always a thief.
Once bitten, twice shy.
