Rachael Ray is Trying to Kill Your Dog
by Spanno
on December 30, 2008
Rachael Ray, whilst promoting her line of "Nutrish" dog food, shared a human food recipe with Modern Dog magazine. The problem? She never mentioned that the dish is for human consumption only and might kill your dog. The recipe, called Isaboo's Butternut Squash Mac and Cheddar, contains gobs of cheese, butter, heavy cream, and onions--which are potentially fatal to dogs. Here's the deadly recipe listed as "Pet Friendly" on her website.

What's amazing is that it's still on her site right now even after being called out on it.
I hope you guys filled out the contact from letting them know. While it's funny she's posted this as pet friendly when it's not, we don't want any dogs getting sick or dying.

Everyone's hopping on the dog bandwagon. She's well intentioned but needs to employ a pet expert or two to vet her advice. It's a shame as she's a wonderful advocate for pits and all pets.

Who would cook Isaboo's Butternut Squash Mac and Cheddar for their dog? Wake up folks this is planet earth.

Any one know what works on cats?
Uh, you need a lot more onion on December 31, 2008 at 04:49 PM
You'd likely need A LOT more onion for it to be a problem. It's unlikely that a 1/2 onion would be harmful unless you had a tiny dog, and that assumes that your dog eats the whole recipe. Don't be jerks just because you hate Rachel Ray.

Good one.

Anyone who owns a dog knows onions and chocolate can be fatal. I bet she doesn't even own a dog!!

Was the bolded disclaimer in the recipe there before?
"Always check with your vet about which foods are appropriate for you to share with your pet. "

Glenn Reynolds always gives puppies onions and chocolate before he puts them in the blender. That way, he can claim he's "curing" them.

Dogs love butternut and pumpkin in general, the high folic acic content tastes good to them. Nothing in the recipe that would hurt a dog, we have fed our dogs many a beef stew and the like. Some serious Rachel Ray hatred on display here.

Who on God's green earth would consider Ickypoo's Butternut Squash Mac and Cheddar fit for even human consumption?
Maybe Anthony Bourdain is right after all...

It is amazing that dogs have survived these thousands of years without your help. I think you are the same people that have raised the last two amazing generations of ignoramuses. Let it be. Dogs love cheeseburgers. My dogs will even dig up onions to eat. I have five pointers. I think dogs are in more danger from the idiots that give them veggan diets with peas and grain, ets. They aren't hurt by a little bit of onion.
Dogs eat meat. They love bones. I know some of you think bones are bad, but canines eat bones in the wild. Of course, the ability to eat bones may have been bread out of little poopsie.
sheesh!
Why don't you people grow up and get off of Rachel's case. If 10000 people have spent 10 minutes reading this, that is a waste of 1-1/4 doggie year.

Haha...bravo, Country Boy! Cheers.

Sweet fancy Moses. The knee-jerk ignorance on display here by the Rachel Ray fans is simply disgusting. I'm ashamed to say I like her recipes, for fear of being grouped with you imbeciles.
Ever hear of Google? Let's use Google to look up, say, "dogs onions".
HFS, Batman! The VERY FIRST LINK spells out food potentially fatal to dogs. Onions are definitely on the list.
WTF is wrong you people?

The poison is in the dose. The question to ask is "how much onion is fatal to a dog?" There are no safe foods, and no poison foods. Only poisonous dosages.
I suppose that it would be bad to feed dogs only onions. I am pretty sure that is not the only ingredient in her recipe.

Wow, look at all these people coming out of the woodwork. Is the hate-on-Thomas-Kinkade forum closed for New Years?
Good times.

Onions can be dangerous for dogs, but the amount that a dog would have to ingest for harm would be more than the 1/2 onion that this recipe includes. And even the 1/2 onion would be more than was in any one serving.
Unless you planned to feed this to your dog everyday or you had a ridiculously small dog, there's nothing to worry about here.

"gobs of cheese, butter, heavy cream" - hell, thats fatal to humans! Can you say "heart attack?"
