My Favorite Things: The Kong Wubba
As a veterinarian, when I walk into a pet store I tend to view pet products a bit differently than most shoppers. When I look at the products on the shelves I tend to evaluate them very critically, as I've seen one too many times what can go wrong when a product is defective or dangerous. For me safety, nutritional value, and durability are always high on my list of requirements for any pet product.
Unfortunately many products are frightening and I'd never give them to my pet in fear of them being harmed by them. So, after being in practice for a while and spending years pampering my pets, I've come up with a bunch of products that I really like--"my favorite things".
Over my next few posts I'll be reviewing a few products that are my favorites, most will be for dogs but I know that some of you "dog people" also have a cat or two running around at home, so maybe one of my colleagues will chime in on some favorite cat products…Dr.Park? OK, enough intro, let's get to the good stuff.
The Kong Wubba
As I sit here with it in my hand, my dog won't leave me alone--he loves this toy. Its basically two durable balls (one solid, one squeaky) enveloped by a durable fabric with tassels of fabric at the end. I love this toy because of the durable fabric holds the squeaky toy in place. A huge downfall for most squeaky toys is the fact that many dogs destroy them trying to get the squeaker out, then swallow it and need surgery to get it out of them.
So far, this is the most durable, yet fun squeaky toy I've found. My own dog has two--both of which are intact and have no torn seams or punctures in the fabric. My dog is 170 pounds with strong jaws, so I'm fairly confident that the durability is good. However, if you have one of those dogs that could/would basically chew a tree down, you still may have to provide strict play supervision with this one too.
There are multiple other versions of this toy available, such as the Water Wubba and the Snugga, but I haven't tested them out yet, so stay tuned. Bottom line, the standard Wubba by Kong is one of my favorite things.

Dozer loves his wubba, it's currently the only thing he will fetch in the water. The only problem is that we can't stop getting other dogs from stealing it from him :)
